Reduce childhood nearsightedness by 50%

Reduce childhood nearsightedness

A new study that took place over a two year period of time shows promise for reducing the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in kids by up to 50%. The technique used involves the fitting of a multifocal contact lens instead of the more traditional single vision lenses. Apparently with traditional contact lenses, the peripheral retinal receives a relative defocused image and sends a signal to the eye not to get longer (axial length). Multifocal contacts helps prevent this. Multifocal contacts, available in popular brands and materials, are well-tolerated by children.
