Don’t forget your sunglasses!

With spring break fast approaching, many people will be heading to sunnier locations. Just as you should pack sunscreen for your skin, you should also pack it for your eyes. Sunglasses are extremely important to protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV rays can increase the risk of cataracts, macular degeneration, and cancer around the eyes. Wearing sunglasses is of the utmost importance when around water, as the UV rays reflect off of the water surface and into the eyes. For this reason, wearing only a hat to give sun shading is not enough, as the UV rays are coming from below rather than above.
